The Woman Allah Chose: Timeless Lessons of Surah Maryam
WHAT IT IS
An intimate encounter with Surah Maryam
An intimate learning session exploring Surah Maryam through Qur’anic scholarship and reflection, led by Shaykh Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi. The session draws timeless lessons from the women and stories within the surah and connects them to questions of faith, resilience and life today.
WHY IT EXISTS
Moving from inspiration to deeper understanding
Many Muslims encounter the Qur’an devotionally, but have fewer opportunities to engage deeply with its stories, context and relevance to contemporary life. The programme creates a space to move beyond inspiration alone towards deeper understanding — particularly of how the Qur’an speaks to women’s experiences, trials, dignity and agency.
HOW IT WORKS
Lecture, conversation and reflection
Participants are guided through key passages and themes from Surah Maryam, with scholarly explanation, reflection and contemporary application. The session combines a lecture by Shaykh Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi, a moderated conversation with Nurul Izzah Anwar, and space for participants to engage with the ideas raised.
PARTICIPANT QUOTE
In their own words
“I came away seeing Surah Maryam not simply as a story I had known for years, but as a source of guidance that speaks directly to the realities we navigate today.”
